DEVIZES MP welcomed Paralympian Anne Dunham to Westminster when the equestrian expert took part in a reception to honour heroes from Rio.

Mrs Dunham, 68, was the oldest British competitor at the games this summer and came away with a gold and two silver medals bringing her Olympic tally to ten.

She now lives in Worton, near Devizes, and is still dedicated to competitive riding on her horse LJT Lucas Normark.

Mrs Perry said: “It was an absolute honour to welcome Anne, and her Paralympian team mates to Westminster and I remain in total awe at her dedication, commitment and the scale of her achievements.”

She has now won 10 Paralympic medals over five different games having been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 27 and has had to use a wheelchair since the age of 30.

At the age of forty, when her husband sold his business, she bought a horse and began to compete.

She first competed at the Paralympics competing on Doodlebug in dressage events at the 1996 Atlanta Games where she won a gold and a bronze.

At the 2000 Paralympics, in Sydney, Dunham was part of the team that successfully defended their title in the open team dressage event.

In 2004 Athens games she won her third consecutive gold medal in the team dressage.

Dunham went to her fourth Paralympics in 2008. Dunham at the age of 59, competing on her horse Teddy Edwards, won her first individual Paralympic gold medal in the championship and also won silver in the freestyle test .grade In the team open Dunham again was part of the gold medal winning games.

She missed out on London through injury and illness but was determined to be fit again for Rio.

She is not ruling out continuing to Tokyo, 2020 but is taking time to enjoy her Rio triumph first. She said: "I’m looking forward to having a bit of time off. The last four years have all been about Rio and lots of people have put a lot of time and effort into it, and now the most important thing is for everyone to have a nice rest.

“I still enjoy it and I might well look to do it again but right now, I honestly haven’t thought about it.”
