WORK has been completed to repair and refurbish the war memorial in Corston, which also honours the 64 men who died from Corston and Rodbourne, in time for Remembrance Day next month.
Councillors from St Paul Malmesbury Without Parish Council worked together with the War Memorial Trust to hire a specialist company at the beginning of October after adding their own funds to the grant they obtained.
A spokesman for St Paul Malmesbury Without Parish Council, said: "The work was undertaken over two days earlier in the month with the target of having the memorial restored to its former condition in time for the Remembrance Day service on Sunday, November 13. The memorial’s stonework was repaired in a couple of places and gently cleaned so that the names of those who we wish to remember are now also clearly visible.
"The council is very much indebted to two of its councillors – Cllrs Hatherell and Clogg who piloted this project through all the complex but necessary steps to its successful conclusion."
