A MAN who was awaiting trial for assaulting his partner has admitted the offence, after being granted bail so he could be with his terminally ill father.
Nigel Martin had denied carrying out the attack when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court earlier in the year and was remanded in custody after breaching the conditions of his bail by contacting his victim.
Earlier this month a judge released the 56-year-old from prison after hearing his father was close to death.
Before the case could come to trial Martin, of Elm Hayes, Corsham, appeared before a judge where he pleaded guilty to the March offence.
Lee Mott, defending, asked for the case to be adjourned so a pre-sentence report could be prepared and accepted he was facing a return to jail.
He also asked for bail, saying Martin's father had now died and his mother also had severe dementia.
Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to November 11 and granted him conditional bail for compassionate reasons, warning him: "You must expect a prison sentence: do you understand."
