MARKET LAVINGTON Music and Comedy Club welcomed Edinburgh Fringe regular Arthur Smith to the stage over the weekend to perform to a packed hall full of comedy fans.

The comedy event, which took place on Saturday (October 1), filled the hall in St Mary’s Road for what can be counted as another successful evening for the club, featuring TV and stage comedian Arthur Smith who topped the bill for the evening.

Ted Osborn, 55, manager of the Market Lavington Music and Comedy Club, said: “Around 230 people packed out the community hall and were treated to a fantastic night of comedy, with the true legend of comedy Arthur Smith treated us to two 40 minute sets.

“The night opened with a brilliant routine from Chris Norton Walker, and this was immediately followed by a great set from Phil Cooper, then at 9pm, the hall erupted to welcome Arthur to the stage who treated us all to his unique humour jokes, poetry and anecdotes which left everyone roaring with laughter.”

Mr Smith, who has featured on television shows like Red Dwarf, Grumpy Old Men, the reboot of Are You Being Served and the stage play An Evening with Gary Linekar, is also an accomplished author and a musician.

Mr Osborn said: “I approached a few people to perform at the comedy evening who didn’t seem too interested but Arthur did, he seems like a very nice man and he is very funny.

“The feedback has been amazing, and as well as the many locals who were present, people had travelled from London, Wales and even Scotland to be there and not miss what must have been the biggest night in Market Lavington in many a year.”

The fun doesn’t stop there for the Mr Osborn and the club, with the next event taking place in just a matter of weeks.

“We will be doing it all again on November 4th when the country's leading, and stars of the west end, The Bluejays will be treating us to a night of Rock & Roll. Tickets £12ea from Market Lavington Post Office in the High Street,” added Mr Osborn.
