POLICE are urging businesses to be on their guard after they received reports of a number of scam phone calls today.

During the call, the scammer claimed to be a police officer and demanded to speak to the firm's managing director before asking for the company's bank details.

Now police are urging businesses not to fall victim to the scammers.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said this afternoon: "We’d like to make businesses in Wiltshire aware of a number of scam calls reported today.

"This morning, we received a call from a business reporting that they had received a phone call from a man who claimed to be a Wiltshire police officer. He insisted on being transferred to the managing director.

"When he was transferred to the MD, he then asked about bank details. Fortunately no bank details were given, and when he was questioned by the MD on what exactly he was ‘investigating’, the man hung up.

"Please note, Wiltshire Police officers would never call you out of the blue and would never ask for your bank details.

"Please hang up immediately if you receive a call of this nature and report it via 101."
