OLYMPIAN Jazz Carlin says she is still caught up in the whirlwind of winning two silver medals.

A champagne lunch at the prestigious London restaurant The Ivy, flying business class for the first time and bumping into actor Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl fame has meant arriving back on UK soil has been far from business as usual for Jazz.

Speaking from her parents’ home in West Swindon yesterday, she said she is still ‘in a bubble’ and the enormity of her achievement has yet to sink in.

“It has been a bit manic really,” said the 25-year-old, who now lives in Bradford on Avon.

“We are in a bit of a bubble when we are over there and didn’t really realise the coverage and support we were getting from back home.”

This time almost two weeks ago Jazz was powering her way to second place in the final of the 800m swimming freestyle, just days after scooping silver in the 400 metres freestyle.

And the reaction is something she could never have imagined. Even the captain of her flight home from Rio blaring the national anthem through the speakers gave her goosebumps.

“It has been incredible,” she said.

“Everyone has been so supportive and to fly back with the team on that flight was pretty special and something I will never forget.

“Hearing the national anthem and seeing everyone standing up together and belting our hearts out, I had goosebumps and I felt like I was ready to race again.

“Everyone has been so fascinated with the Olympics and we didn’t really expect everyone to be following us, especially for me swimming at two o’clock in the morning back home.”

And she added: “It is just amazing to think that people were getting up to watch you on the TV and it is a really nice feeling knowing everyone is supporting you.

“It has been so surreal since I have been back but I am loving every minute of it.”

Jazz is also hoping to pay a visit to the Swindon Tigersharks in Milton Road, where she learned to swim aged four.

“I am hoping to go next week,” she said. “I got back late on Wednesday, I was so tired and had 13 hours sleep so I know that I needed it.”
