A HIGH number of St John’s Academy pupils in Marlborough celebrated another year of top marks in the Year 11’s GCSE results day.

The staff at the academy were proud to announce that 71 per cent of the pupils received at least five A*-C grades which included maths and English literature or language.

Dan Rogan, assistant vice principal of St John’s, said: “Bucking the national trend are the boys at St. John’s with this year’s highest fliers being Ollie Kanisius Pocock, 12 A* grades, Greg Rogan Rea, 11 A*s and an A, Jacob Smith, 10 A*s and 2 As and Matt Snell who also got 10 A*s and 2 As. All four plan on studying A-levels at St. John’s. These four have helped us smash our record for top grades with over a third of all grades being A* or A, despite GCSEs having been toughened up on Government orders.”

The school also boasted 30 of its pupils receiving teen A or A* grades across the board, with some of the St John’s Year 11s beating their target grades.

“Of course there are many other top students too: over 30 of them achieved at least 10 A or A* grades including: Max Brown, Dan Collins, Ollie Davies, Isabel Farrell, Freddie Good, Lucy Harton-Carter, Alex Knighton, Selwyn Lilley, Charlie Major, Isobel Mason, Joe Perdue, Asher Sandbach, Ruby Soellner, Sam Taylor and Anna Wren,” said Mr Rogan.

“The focus is also on progress in Year 11 and we are delighted with the outstanding achievements of our top 5: Charlotte Jackson, Jocelyn Drew, Max Brown, Thomas Dore and Isabella Hutton who all beat their targets by 2 grades in every subject. Congratulations to all of our students and thank you to their parents and all of our staff for their work in helping everyone achieve their results.”
