THE headteacher of Sheldon School in Chippenham has been left delighted following this year’s GCSE results.

In total, 72 per cent of the 278 students at the school achieved five A*-C in both English and maths while 55 per cent of students achieved at least one grade A in their GCSEs.

Headteacher Neil Spurdell said: “These results reflect the hard work shown by this particular year group and I am delighted that they have done so well.

“We have once again got excellent results in our option subjects and this is heavily supported by really good results in our core of English, maths and science.

“As a result, a large number will be staying on into our sixth form and we shall look forward to them building on this over the next two years.”

Notable results included Annabelle Moore with nine A*s and three As, Olivia Hall with seven A*s and six As, Meg Watts with seven A*s and three As, Anna Caddell with six A*s and seven As, Maddy Shepherd with six A*s and six As, Becky Strain with six A*s and five As, Toby Shirazian with six A*s and four As and Jack Dobie with five A*s and six As.

Phoebe Hardingham, 16, who achieved seven A*s and six As, said: “I have been so nervous before but I was calm this morning before I got the results.”

Sixteen-year-old Ulas Akkas, who achieved five A*s and six As, said: “I wasn’t not expecting that, I’m so gobsmacked, I didn’t really know what I was expecting.”
