Nearly a third of students achieved three or more A* or A grade GCSEs at The Corsham School on Thursday morning.

The sixteen-year-olds gathered nervously in the gardens clutching their results with some too scared to open the brown envelopes.

There were tears of joy for Lydia Jones who achieved two A*s, five A's and four B's and is heading off to Sheldon School to study English Literature, Biology, Psychology and Physical Education.

"I am really pleased," Miss Jones said after clearing up smudged eyeliner. "I wasn't expecting these results. I worked so hard and I was so nervous because I didn't know if I would get it."

Her mother Sarah said her daughter had worked hard for her results and that she deserved them.
