ST PETER’S Juniors in Marlborough marked the end of an era last week as the final group of Year 6s left the school before its amalgamation with St Mary’s.

The final term for St Peter’s juniors, in The Parade, ended on Friday (July 22) with pupils and staff seeing in the last time the Year 6s would leave before the school is joined by St Mary’s in September.

Caroline Spindlow, head of St Peters, said: “It was quite an emotional day for everyone at the school. We had to take down the sign so we had the Year 6s hold it up and celebrate the end of the era. It will be business as usual as the site is still going to be in use until the new school building has been completed but it was a very poignant day.”

The school went out on a high note after receiving high ratings from independent bodies, giving staff a perfect way to end the school year.

“We received an Outstanding rating by SIAM and also received an overall Good rating from the local authority, so we really did end this year on a high note. We have 14 teachers at the school, a couple have taken promotions or jobs elsewhere but there will be no redundancies because there will be the same amount of classes for our staff to teach,” added Mrs Spindlow.

The new school, St Mary’s Primary, will open its doors next September with Anne Schwodler, the current head of St Mary’s Infants, taking the helm as the new head.

“I have been the head of St Peter’s for ten years and now I am going through a career change, it has been lovely working at the school and the new school will also be brilliant,” Mrs Spindlow said.
