A MAN who repeatedly assaulted and harassed his wife has been warned he could be facing a jail term.

Dave Smith left the woman with a broken wrist in one attack and carried out humiliating acts on her on other occasions.

The 38-year-old forced her to drink shower gel, cut her hair and also repeatedly choked her, Swindon Crown Court was told on Monday (jul 25).

Smith, of Chapel Street, Derry Hill, Calne, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, four counts of actual bodily harm and two of common assault.

He also admitted putting a person in fear of violence through harassment by making threats of violence against her over a period of almost four years.

Paul Binder, defending, said that since his client's arrest in December he had stopped taking drugs and alcohol and is now living with his mother.

Recorder Malcolm Gibney adjourned the case to August 19 and released him on conditional bail until then.

He said "The pleas that you have entered relate to substantially bad offending which may well attract a custodial sentence.

"I don't want you leaving here today with any unrealistic outlook as to what the sentence may be."
