EMERGENCY services including Wiltshire Air Ambulance were at the scene after a plane crashed in a field just after 11am today.

It is understood the bright yellow, Yak-52 was headed to Boscombe Down with two people on board when it crashed, west of Salisbury about two miles from Dinton.

The ambulance service said there were two male casualties, one with a leg injury.

Two fire crews from Salisbury and one from Wilton were at the scene with firefighters having to cut one of the men free.

Two air ambulances, a coastguard helicopter, one road ambulance and a fire engine were on the scene along with police.

The area has been cordoned off and about 10 people were examining the wreckage.

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "Wiltshire Police received a call at 10.50am this morning (8 July 2016) reporting a light aircraft crash on Dinton Airfield.

"It is believed there were two people on board the aircraft.

"Officers, fire and ambulance are currently dealing with the incident at the scene."

It is understood the aircraft took off at 10.15am.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation into the crash.
