SOME of Wiltshire’s prettiest pooches were on display at the Bowood Dog Show this weekend as new backers came on board to support the event.

Waggiest Tail, loveliest dog, puppy and veteran were just some of the categories on which judges had to make their difficult decisions.

Founding member of the show Lady Lansdowne decided to bring it to a close in 2015 but Living Heritage took it on themselves to put on the show again this year.

Lady Lansdowne said: “It was wonderful to have the Dog Show return to Bowood for its eleventh year with new organisers, Living Heritage now carrying the baton.

“I am so thrilled with the support they received from the dog owners of Wiltshire. The Wiltshire Sight charity was delighted with the amount of dogs in its classes which alone raised over £2,300.

“There were more than 121 in the Waggiest Tail class and most pedigree classes were oversubscribed.

“The Bobby Van Trust also did well in the Pimms tent - especially when rain forced people into it."

The family day out, which raises funds for charities serving the people of Wiltshire, has raised £300,000 since its inception 11 years ago.

It was decided to retire the event as the time and money needed to put on the annual show was becoming too much of a burden.

“Having launched the annual event in 2006 and run it until this year, for me it felt like a very different show as for the first time ever I was able to go around the showground and actually see all that was going on," added Lady Lansdowne.

“I am so grateful to Living Heritage that an element of the gate money is being donated to my charities.

“A portion of Bowood’s facility fee was also donated by my husband and so a very big thank you to him too.”
