THE first Calne Rotary Club Classic Car Run was a roaring success as 66 beaming motors rolled up to the town in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Dorothy House.

As part of the run participants were asked to bring a teddy bear to ride as passenger for a £2 fee, with an auction at the end for Dorothy House.

Starting at 9.30am in the Sainsbury’s lower car park residents witnessed a whole host of cars, including a Morris 8 Saloon, Daimler Dart and Lee Francis sports, race through the county.

Participant Miriam Trotman, 67, of Wessington Park, said: “It was really good fun and it was exceedingly well organised and everything just clicked into place, with no hold ups.

“We also had tea at Dorothy House, which is quite a beautiful place. I auctioned off my teddy bear, who I had paid to have as a VIP guest.

“In the end someone paid £50 for him but then the woman, who bought him, gave me the teddy back. We have not got a classic car but we have a Porsche so we just joined in with everybody else."

The run finished off at Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum after stopping off at various points in the county, including Wadworth Brewery in Devizes.

“I think we would probably do it again next year. The cars were nice, really old and some seemed like they were more vintage than classic but I am not an expert on cars," she added.

“Unfortunately, my husband is a bit of a motor head so we have done a few car runs before but nothing like this.”
