FAMILIES in Calne have been taking part in hanging basket workshops in preparation for Calne in Bloom.

The Calne in Bloom team held their first workshop on May 7 in the New Market Place, encouraging passers-by to drop in and plant a basket. Several families took part throughout the day, with children enjoying getting their hands dirty and choosing the plants.

Trudy King, Calne in Bloom co-ordinator, said: “It was lovely to see families working together and to welcome both our regular workshop goers and some new faces. I am really looking forward to receiving photos of the sunflowers and baskets when they have grown. During the workshops we were also able to talk to people about the aims and objectives of Calne in Bloom and give information on how to get involved.”

At the workshop Calne Town Council’s grounds staff team were on hand to offer guidance. As well as the hanging baskets, children were given sunflower seeds to plant. When the children’s sunflowers are fully grown the tallest will be awarded a prize at the Calne in Bloom awards on October 7.
