A 21-year-old man who stole alcohol from a Co-operative store, urinated on an employees car and assaulted a man has been handed the first Criminal Behaviour Order in the Malmesbury area.

Frederick Puddick of Tetbury Road was given a two year order at Swindon Magistrates Court on May 18 for two counts of threatening behaviour, assault, theft and obstructing a police officer.

On December 19, Puddick stole alcohol from the store in Malmesbury High Street and was found urinating on the car of an employee on January 30. On the same day, he also assaulted a 58-year-old man at Malmesbury Bowls Club and used threatening words to two other men. During his arrest, Puddick put up a violent struggle.

Sergeant Phil Connor, of Malmesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Puddick has been offending in the Malmesbury area for some time, causing issues and misery for many residents and businesses in the town.

“I am satisfied with the sentence given out and I am particularly pleased that Puddick is now subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order which was the culmination of hard work by the Malmesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team.

"This means that he will be committing a criminal offence if he fails to comply with the requirements of the CBO."

He added: "I hope that this enforcement action will show Puddick that his behaviour will not be tolerated and that his actions have consequences.”

Puddick was also sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months and he must complete 60 hours of unpaid work, pay £100 compensation to his three victims and an £80 victim surcharge.
