CHILDREN and staff at Kington St Michael Primary School were on hand for the official unveiling of a new classroom this week.

The new cabin, supplied by Norwegian Log Buildings, was unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant for Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton, on Monday.

The Inovar contemporary building consists of a classroom, lobby and two toilets which will be used by Years 2 and 3.

Headteacher Tracy Cornelius said: “We wanted a building that would fit in to the school at the end of our field and look in keeping with the rural surroundings.

“We also wanted it to be smart, not like an old-fashioned mobile classroom, and to be a permanent fixture that would last.

“The children love it. It has a fantastic atmosphere, a really nice learning environment and the pupils appreciate how lucky they are to have it.

“We’ll now be able to redevelop other areas of our school into a music room and library so the building is helping not just one class but the whole school.”

The project has been supported by fundraising from parents and friends of the school, and by funding from The Hills Group Limited, made available through the Landfill Communities Fund, which is administered by Community First – the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

The classroom was built on the school grounds over the space of two days by Norwegian Log Buildings.

Managing director of Norwegian Log Buildings, Nick Forrester, said: “We’re delighted Kington St Michael’s pupils have given their new classroom the thumbs up.

“Tracy and her team wanted a classroom building that looks good and would last and we’ve delivered exactly that.”
