CHIPPENHAM Park manager Dave Ferris believes his side has under-achieved this season after holding fifth-placed Keynsham to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.

Ferris said that Tuesday’s performance showed his side are able to compete with the best sides in the Toolstation League First Division.

Striker Mark Robinson hit the post late on with scuffed shot which bounced back into the arms of a grateful Keynsham goalkeeper and a strong Sam Thomson save ensured Park shared the points.

Ferris said: “Anything other than a draw would have been a travesty to the side that lost. 0-0 was a fair result and I was very very pleased especially off the back of two defeats.

“I don’t think the league table lies, we are 12th and we are disappointed with that but I don’t think it’s anything other than a thorough reflect on how our season has gone.

“We have had far too many changes week on week, it’s disappointing but that’s the way it is, if we have a full squad of players we can match anyone in this league.

“We felt at the start of the season we had a good chance, I think we have totally under-achieved from where we thought we would be and a lot of it is down to the personnel not being available.”

The draw was Park’s third game without a victory following a 3-1 defeat against Almondsbury UWE on Saturday.

Striker Mark Robinson got the consolation goal on that occasion and his impact in the second half of Park’s season has been praised by Ferris.

“He’s come back and he’s made a huge difference,” added Ferris.

“I think early in the season we dominated games and territory but we didn’t have the finishing touch, he brings other players into the game and he’s got that killer instinct.”

Park can leapfrog local rivals Calne Town, who they lost to 1-0 on Boxing Day, when they return to action against their near neighbours tomorrow (Friday).

“In a local derby you want to go out and do your best,” he said.

“Certainly at home we have got to be looking for three points but it’s not going to be easy.

“It’s going to be a tough game but the lads want the bragging rights afterwards so we won’t underestimate the challenge.”
