TO OFFSET its carbon footprint, Cardwave has planted a number of trees for the Marlborough Downs Space for Nature project.

By donating £378 to the project, the Devizes- based company was able to help buy trees to create a tree sparrow corridor at Rockley. This provided 675 trees to cover around 130 square metres of plating area for the scheme.

To ensure that the donation was maximised the staff from Cardwave and family members also volunteered to plant the trees on Saturday (March 19).

Paul Norbury, CEO of Cardwave, said: “I feel really strongly about supporting local projects, I think more companies should be getting more involved at a local level, it also makes for great team building. There is so much we can all be doing so I hope that other companies follow our lead.”

Not only will the tree planting contribute to playing a significant role in reducing the rate of climate change, through carbon storage it will also prevent soil loss, reduce pollution, help regulate run-off and prevent flooding.

Jemma Batten, manager of the Space for Nature project, has expressed her delight at the companies offer to purchase and plant the saplings. She said: “We are working with 28 farmers across almost 23,000 acres to create a joined-up landscape for wildlife. Cardwave’s corridor will contribute to a far larger network of connected habitat that is already proving to have a big impact upon the wildlife of the area, especially farmland birds like the tree sparrow.”
