HARRY Potter, Winnie the Pooh and Dougal from The Magic Roundabout were just some of the visitors at this year’s Christian Malford Scarecrow Trail, which raised more money than ever before.

Running for the fifth year, almost 1,500 people visited the two-day event last weekend tracking down the 48 scarecrows dotted around the village based on children book characters.

“It’s definitely grown year-on-year and we think the money was just slightly over last year’s total of £4,000, we think we’re on for a record,” said Laura Sidhu, chairman of the Christian Malford Scarecrow Trail.

“It was so cold compared to last year but we did have lots of people here so we’re happy.”

As well as a scarecrow trail, children also had the chance to go on a bouncy castle, have a go at a lucky dip and get their faces painted.

There were also prizes for the best designed scarecrow, a raffle with prizes including meal and family day vouchers and £100 to the person who correctly guessed the most scarecrows along the trail.

Money raised from the event will go towards various projects at the Christian Malford Primary School and Acorns Pre-School.

“It’s a community event, we wanted things people could do when they got back,” added Mrs Sidhu, who works as a teacher at Acorn Pre-School.

“For us it’s about trying different things.”
