FARMER Steve Oram says his golf range project is still on target to open at the end of April.

Mr Oram is creating a 12 bay range at his farm at Sleight, near Devizes, and despite wet weather hampering some of the work he expects to meet his April deadline.

He said: "The project is moving forward as excepted and although the ground work and foundations have been delayed slightly due to the weather and the closure of Sleight Lane for resurfacing we still expect to be on target to open at the end of April.

"These delays do not adversely affect the building schedule as the comprehensive design detail means that HB Designs, based at The Old Potato Yard at Lydeway, are predicting a three to four week construction period for the buildings."

He hopes the range will appeal to people of all ages and abilities and automatic tees on five of the bays will make it easier for disabled people to take part.

Landscaping has also been carried out to improve the view from the café

He said: "Tree planting of 53 trees on the outfield side of the building has been completed, 10 more than originally planned, to enhance the outlook from the café."

A Facebook page has been set up under the name Sleight Valley Golf Range to keep people up to date with the latest news and a website is being created which will include details of a loyalty card scheme.

Mr Oram said: "I would like to thank everyone for the fantastic support we have received so far and look forward to meeting everyone once we are open."

The golf scheme has taken four years to reach this stage but Mr Oram is pleased to have now got the details exactly right. He said: "I changed the plans a bit because I wanted to make the most of the cafe. Hopefully it will be the sort of place that people will come to even if they are not using the driving range. For me it is all about making it customer friendly."

The 12 floodlit bays will be open seven days a week. Car parking is included as part of the scheme as well as toilets and a ball storage building. Access will be off Sleight Lane near the Fox and Hounds Pub.
