Chippenham Rugby Club hosted the latest series of floodlit U12's games on behalf of the Wooden Spoon Charity for disadvantaged and disabled children on Friday (Jan 29).

The weather failed to dampen spirits as teams from Warminster, Bradford on Avon, Corsham and Chippenham played under the floodlights.

Richard Bentley, chairman of CRFC mini section, said: “Despite the wet and windy conditions, all teams produced some fantastic rugby and great credit must go to them for conjuring up such expert play for all the parents, coaches and spectators to enjoy.

“Chippenham Rugby Club had been very pleased to host the evening in aid of such a worthwhile cause and everyone who assisted on the night should be proud of their efforts in doing so."

Many of the games were closely fought with the ethos of the tournament seeing the winner determined not just by the results but also the fairness and spirit of play.

This was the second of three cluster tournaments with the winners of each cluster playing in the final celebration evening, planned for March, at Royal Wootton Basset RFC.

Gareth John, chairman of the Wiltshire region for the Wooden Spoon charity, along with Chippenham First XV players Bobby Lyons and Lewis Surry presented the awards to all the teams.

Mr John said: “All the players deserve so much credit for demonstrating some great rugby during the evening.”
