WHISPER it quietly but music royalty Sir Paul McCartney may put in an appearance at this year's Concert At The Kings in All Cannings, near Devizes.

There have been rumours that McCartney would take to the stage at Rock Against Cancer since it was first held five years ago.

But this time co-organiser John 'Grubby' Callis believes it could happen. And as Grubby is McCartney's sound engineer he should know. He said on Friday: "He has the date and he has promised me that he will appear one year. This is our fifth anniversary so why not this year. But I doubt we will know until very near the time."

Last year McCartney did not make it to All Cannings to join the likes of Lindisfarne and Squeeze but Mr Callis revealed he had made a substantial donation to the event which raises money for a number of cancer charities and local good causes.

The first four concerts have raised a total of more than £112,000 and there are high hopes that this year's on May 21 will be even more successful. It has grown hugely since Mr Callis along with Kings Arms landlord Richard Baulu and Andy Scott guitarist with The Sweet came up with the idea.

Mr Baulu said: "We originally planned it as a one off event in 2011 but in the end all the red tape made it impossible to stage that year. In 2012 it went ahead but we only had ten weeks to get everything done. But people in the village were amazing and we couldn't have done it without them.

"Since then we have learnt a huge amount and we were very pleased with the way last year went."

Andy Scott, who lives in the village and is a regular at the King's Arms, will be performing this year with old friend Suzi Quatro best known for her song Devil Gate Drive. He said: "I have known her since the 70s when we met through record producer Mickie Most. We have stayed good friends and I asked her if she would come to All Cannings.

"I am really looking forward to being on stage with her. I love appearing in All Cannings and hopefully this is going to be something special. She is a fantastic performer and has a huge following all over the world."

Suzi, who celebrated 50 years in the music industry in 2014, said at the time: "I will retire when I go onstage, shake my ass, and there is silence." It is unlikely that will happen in All Cannings.

Joining Suzy in May will be 10cc back for a second performance after making a big impact in 2013, Big Country and Marmalade. Concert At The King's favourites the SAS band will also be in action.

Mr Callis said: "In the past we have had some big name guests turning up to play with the SAS band and I can guarantee it will be the same this year. There will be at least two really well known people but we are still in negotiation and so can't reveal exactly who yet."
