TWO DEVIZES schools hit centre stage at the O2 Arena in London as part of the Young Voices choir.

St Barnabas CEVC Primary School from Market Lavington and Urchfont C of E Primary both travelled to London to take part in the Young Voices choir, the largest school choir in the world.

The Young Voices choir includes more than 7,000 children from across the country performing in the huge arena in front of an audience of thousands.

Fiona Underwood, head of the Urchfront C of E choir, said: “It was brilliant, absolutely amazing. The children were brilliant and really seemed to enjoy it. The O2 opened to parents at 6pm while the children were practising, which made them all perk up a bit. There was a very good atmosphere throughout, I am very proud of the children.”

The O2 arena was at full capacity for the Young Voices choir, with 20,000 people turning up to show their support for the school choirs.

Lindsay Clough, choir teacher at St Barnabas, said: “We have been practising for the past couple of months. It was a late night for all of the children but they had a great time. When the crowd applauded you could see their faces light up. It was a brilliant time for all of them.”
