SWINDON coach Sean Lynn has denied that his side have a mental block about playing Newbury Blues.

Lynn freely admits that the Berkshire side, where Swindon travel to on Saturday with the aim of picking up back-to-back wins, have the wood on his team and he cannot recall a victory at Monks Lane.

Despite Newbury’s impressive record against Swindon, Lynn insists the fourth-placed side hold no hoodoo over the Greenbridge Road outfit.

Instead, Lynn puts Swindon continued inability to win at Newbury down to simply coming up against a strong side who are very good at protecting their own patch.

“I don’t think there’s a mental block about playing against Newbury at all,” said Lynn.

“Going to Newbury is difficult - we haven’t won there in a long time. I cannot remember ever beating them at home.

“At home, they are just a very good side. However, I’m hoping, with a bit of belief and the confidence from the win last week (against Maidenhead), we can get another one.”

Last Saturday, a 52-23 win over Maidenhead ended a two-game losing run and it was brought about by an improved all-round performance at Greenbridge Road. Now, Lynn and his troops must continue that good work away from home.

The Swindon head coach is hoping to see his side build on the defensive practice they have been putting in during training, which in turn, should set the platform for them to get on the front foot.

“We’re trying to build momentum in defence,” added Lynn. “We’ve done a lot of work on the back-line and especially, putting pressure on their 10 and 12.

“It worked well (last week,) which was nice to see, and we also want to look at the breakdown going forward.

“We’re going to be as at full-strength as we can be on Saturday. Ben Saville will be coming back in, although we’re still waiting on Tom Mannion, who will be back in January.

“Tim Berry, who has been instrumental for us recently from nine, is missing though.”
