THE National Trust at Avebury is extending their opening hours so visitors can come and see the Circle of Light display looking its best after dark.

The attraction features seven standing ‘stones’ made from lights, inspired by the ancient stone circle in the village.

The display was designed by National Trust curator Dr. Ros Cleal and made by Emma Weston and a team of volunteers.

Avebury’s general manager, Jan Tomlin, said: "We are delighted that Dr Ros Cleal has designed this fantastic display. It is beautifully evocative of the Neolithic stone circle and has been very popular with visitors.

"In the daytime people can see it in the Barn Gallery but it really looks its best at night, where it can be seen outside. We hope that people will take advantage of our later opening time on Friday and come down and see for themselves."

The Circle of Light can be seen until 6pm on Friday 18 December.

The Old Farmyard at Avebury is also decorated for Christmas, the Circles Café will be offering festive snacks and mulled drinks and the National Trust shop will also stay open for some Christmas shopping.

The Circle of Lights display is free of charge. Visitors are asked to park in the village High Street car park after 4pm and to walk down to the Old Farmyard from there.
