CHIPPENHAM TOWN moved up to fourth spot in the table with a convincing win over their in-form Bedfordshire visitors, at the same time recording their second league double of the season.

The Bluebirds went on the offensive from the off with Michael Pook’s second-minute long throw only being cleared as far as Luke Ballinger who volleyed wide.

Two minutes later Ballinger’s deep cross was met by Matt Jones who fired wide.

On 18 minutes Dunstable’s Danny Talbot saw his free kick from distance go all the way through to Kent Kauppinen. Moments later Alex Ferguson’s shot on the turn was saved by Paul Bastock.

After Matt Smith had shot wide, Bastock turned an effort from James Guthrie behind for a corner. The Bluebirds took the lead on 24 minutes when Pook’s fiercely-driven free kick hit the outstretched arm of Talbot and Andy Sandell converted the resulting penalty.

A minute later Bastock pulled off a good save to deny Jones. On 32 minutes the visiting keeper was again to the fore as he held a header from Sandell.

Six minutes later Bastock punched away a corner which saw Jones again fire high.

Victor Osobu then went on a mazy run for the Bedfordshire side but his final shot was tame.

Chippenham doubled their lead a minute into first-half stoppage time when Alex Ferguson’s shot was deflected past Bastock by a visiting defender.

James Guthrie’s shot a minute after the break was held by Bastock but Guthrie was on the scoresheet three minutes later when his right-footed shot from a central position crashed home after Sandell had allowed substitute Harry Grant’s cross to roll past him.

A Chippenham corner then saw Mark Preece’s shot held by Bastock.

Dunstable pulled a goal back on 57 minutes when a cross from the right was turned into his own net by skipper Greg Tindle.

On 70 minutes Jones’s shot flashed across the Dunstable goal and a minute later Kauppinen did well to turn aside Talbot’s shot.

Substitute Olly Taylor shot wide a quarter of an hour from time and two minutes later laid the ball back to Sandell who placed his shot too close to Bastock.

On 84 minutes Sandell’s free kick was pushed out by Bastock and from ten yards out Taylor rattled the bar. A minute later Tindle’s long clearance found Sandell who sprinted clear before sliding the ball home for Chippenham’s fourth.
