THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as a blustery weekend is expected across the whole of England and Wales, with winds strengthening from the west on Saturday morning.

Gusts around coastlines exposed to the westerly or southwesterly winds could reach 60mph at times while inland gusts will be less frequent but could still reach 50 to 55mph.

Wind speeds could drop tonight night but will be even stronger on Sunday when western coasts could see 70mph gusts.

Elsewhere gusts of 60mph are possible, particularly in western areas, and forecasters say there could be some disruption due to the strong winds.

The chief forecaster said: "A low pressure system is expected to move east to the north of Scotland on Saturday strengthening winds across the UK but particularly across England and Wales.

"The winds in association with this are expected to be very gusty and whilst the strongest winds are likely to be around coasts exposed to the westerly or southwesterly winds some strong gusts are also expected inland. Another low pressure system will run eastwards across southern Scotland on Sunday further strengthening the winds over England and Wales.

"There is some uncertainty with the track of the second low and the extent of the gusty winds inland and so this warning is likely to be updated over the weekend."

Local authority areas affected include Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset.

The weather warning is valid from 9am on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday.
