VOLUNTEERS are needed to help give this year's Operation Christmas Child a final push.

Janice Charlton the Devizes area co-ordinator hopes as many people as possible will attend St Andrew's Church on October 31 to help pack shoeboxes between 10am and 1pm.

She said: "I have been amazed this year at the number of people who have worked so hard to produce beautifully knitted items for the boxes and those who have put together lovely paper craft and sewing kits. "Our group of volunteers have been meeting every month to exchange ideas and materials as well as pack boxes. I am overwhelmed by the love, kindness and generosity shown towards the children who will be receiving these boxes and the fellowship that has built up among our volunteers."

The boxes help bring a little happiness to children around the world who are suffering in difficult conditions.

October 30 will be the last day for people to donate items at the church when it will be open from 4pm to 8pm.

Sorting items will also take place on this evening and volunteers will start packing. Mrs Charlton said: "If people are bringing items to go into the boxes please do so only on October 30 as the packing day does get very busy and we will not have an opportunity to sort items then."

People can also help by making a financial donation to help with the cost of delivery and to volunteer now to help with next year's appeal.
