SOME of the best skaters from across Wiltshire were in Devizes on Saturday to show off their tricks as the indoor skate centre RampNation gets ready to celebrate its third birthday.

Wiltshire Skate Series was at RampNation on the Garden Industrial Estate for its final event of the year. The centre will celebrate its third birthday this Saturday and is hoping for a visit from Devizes Mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders and members of Devizes Town Council and Roundway Parish Council.

Lucy Wain from RampNation said: "It was brilliant to be involved in an event such as this. This is our third year of hosting the competition and the level of talent from all the riders is incredible.

"We have now been open for three years and during that time we have hosted a huge variety of riders from absolute beginners as young as three, up to professional riders.

"We have held competitions for scooters and skateboards and have events for the under-eights community too.

"We have lots of bookings for birthday parties and have had just under 6,000 individual riders through our doors. They are mostly the riders are from the UK, but we have had people from Germany, Australia and America."

On Saturday visitors will be able to tuck into a birthday cake to mark the third anniversary.

Wiltshire Council's sports development officer Danny Geeson said: "Wiltshire Skate Series is an annual series of five competitive events for the Wiltshire skate community is now in its sixth year.

"The programme is led and delivered by a young person forum, which is made up of local young skaters with the support of the Wiltshire Council sports development service.

"It is held at different skate parks across the county and aims to empower young people and encourage volunteering from within the skateboarding community with judges, skate marshals, DJs and helpers all giving up their time free of charge to ensure the success of the events."
