A SERIES of book activities celebrated the joy of reading at Cherhill Primary School last week to coincide with National Children's Book Week.

The school launched the week with a dress-up day, with pupils dressing in classic characters like Cinderella and Mary Poppins to Wally from Where's Wally and The Cat in the Hat.

During the week the children also took part in 'buddy' reading with other classes and teacher swapping to read to different classes.

Deputy head teacher Helen Lammin said: "The dress up day was a fun way to start the week but the highlight of the week was 'bedtime stories' where the children come back to school in their pyjamas and their favourite cuddly toy, to listen to bedtime stories by the teachers.

"It was a really successful night with over 100 children coming back to school. The children and staff had a fantastic week."

The village primary also had a visit from Calne Library who led a whole school assembly followed by class-based sessions in Key Stage 1.
