CHIPPENHAM Park boss Dave Ferris saw Saturday’s cup defeat to Keynsham Town as another chance missed as his side continue to fire blanks in front of goal.

Having started the season well, Chippenham have now gone six games in league and cup without finding the back of the net as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in the Les Phillips Cup.

The hosts took an early lead when Thomas Johnson found the net in the 10th minute and despite Park dominating large periods of the game, they ran out of ideas in the final third, much to the frustration of Ferris.

“In the first ten minutes, Keynsham have had a corner which we have defended poorly and they have taken the lead,” said Ferris, who missed the game.

“The rest of the first half, it seemed like we dominated proceedings but we are firing blanks.

“Keynsham obviously defended very well but the bottom line is that we are not creating the chances we were at the start of the season.

“It is disappointing at the moment because we used to moan like mad that these boys were missing the chances but we’re not creating the chances at the moment and that is more frustrating.

“I can’t fault the lads on their efforts and thankfully it was a cup match.”

Chippenham now turn their attentions to Wiltshire League outfit Malmesbury Victoria in the Wiltshire Senior Cup and Ferris will be desperate for his players to find their shooting boots once more.

“We have got a cup match this weekend against Malmesbury Vics, who beat us 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at their place, and it is not going to be an easy place to go,” he added.

“The problem is, you can only go through certain routines but in a game scenario, there are two teams out there and when you come up against a side that is very organised, you need that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to break them down.

“We have a lot of good lads that work hard but sometimes, we are missing that extra bit of technique.”
