FOR mum Krystle Hillier it is not so much a case of can't cook won't cook but can't cook will cook.

For Mrs Hillier, 30, from Devizes has been chosen as one of the worst cooks in the country and will now compete in a Disaster Chef competition.

Mrs Hillier, who is a mum of three and works as a nurse, said: "I have done some terrible things such as nearly making my micro wave explode by putting metal in it to serving cakes so hard you could use them as a weapon. I have also set fire to spaghetti.

"I have dished up some real disasters but my husband David is an even worse cook than me so he has to eat what I put in front of him."

The baby of the family one-year-old Rosalie has no choice but to each what her mother cooks but middle child Elijah, four, does not hold back when served with one of his mum's disasters.

She said: "He is a typical middle child. If he doesn't like it he has a right paddy." Eden, six, and a pupil at Nursteed Primary School is more resigned and just puts up with it.

But luckily for her family Mrs Hillier has been determined to learn how to cook a few basic meals and now sticks to a limited menu that she knows she can deliver as she does not want to serve her family convenience food.

The former Devizes School pupil said: "I absolutely love my slow cooker. It is a life saver as you can just throw everything and anything in to it and it usually comes out ok. I have also mastered fairy cakes so I am quite proud of that."

Despite her short comings as a cook she loves programmes such as the Great British Bake Off and is delighted as part of the Disaster Chef contest she has been sent a mixer by sponsors Kenwood and is looking forward to using it.

She will have to take part in a number of challenges against nine other disastrous chefs in the hope of turning her disasters around.

She will be competing for a £4,000 prize package in front of a judging panel including renowned chef Raymond Blanc OBE, Great British Bake Off finalist Miranda Gore Browne and Kenwood development chef, Martin Johns.

Mr Blanc said: "We want to equip beginners with the basic tools for cooking and watch them build upon these skills to create delicious dishes."

After the six weeks of tests Mrs Hillier will be put to a final challenge on November 28 at Aveqia in London. The Disaster Chef who impresses the most will be crowned Kenwood Chef 2015.
