FAMILIES will flock to Marlborough this weekend to enjoy the first of the two annual Mops in the town.

It is the turn of the Little Mop on Saturday with the Big Mop taking place the following Saturday on October 17.

The High Street and parts of Kingsbury Street and New Road will be closed to traffic from midday on Friday so all the rides and attractions can be set up.

The roads will reopen at 8am on Sunday, October 11.

They will also be closed at the same times for the Big Mop on Friday, October 16, until Sunday, October 18.

The Mop takes place on the two Saturdays nearest to October 11 to be in line with the town’s charter given by King John in 1204.

Last year, the Little Mop was officially opened by former mayor of Marlborough, Marian Hannaford-Dobson, and MP Claire Perry on the Saturday afternoon, who both later had a whirl on some of the rides.
