The "increasingly desperate" family of a Devizes hillwalker missing for more than a week have issued an appeal for information.

Robin Garton, 69, from Roundway was last seen in the Glencoe area of the Highlands on the morning of Friday September 25.

A family statement from his wife Jessica-Lee and children Francesca and Will read: "We are extremely grateful to members of the emergency services and search & rescue personnel who have been helping in the search for Robin.

"We are increasingly desperate to find him. Somebody will have seen him on the morning of September 25 and we would appeal to anyone in the area that day to rack their brains.

"Alternatively, do you know of others that were walking that day who might have seen him?

"We'd like to appeal to anyone who saw Robin or may have spoken to him to please get in touch with the police on 101.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may assist in bringing Robin home to his wife and children."

More than 50 mountain rescue personnel and police officers with search and rescue dogs combed the area over the weekend, including the Aonach Eagach and Three Sisters ridges.

Mr Garton checked out of the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe at about 8am.

Officers traced his black Volkswagen Passat estate car in the Achnambeithach car park, off the A82 by Loch Achtriochtan.

It is believed Mr Garton may have had made plans to walk in the Coire Nam Beith or Bidean Nam Bian areas.

Brian Mackay, South Highland area commander, said: "Police Scotland is very grateful to all the mountain rescue personnel and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association) for their continued assistance with the search for Mr Garton.

"We would also thank members of the public who have responded to and shared our appeal for information to date.

"Searches continue in the area where Mr Garton's car was found in addition to wider routes he may have taken.

"We would appeal to anyone who has been walking in the Glencoe area recently and may seen someone matching Mr Garton's description to make contact urgently on 101."

Mr Garton is described as 6ft 2ins, of slim to medium build with fair hair which is slightly balding. He occasionally wears glasses.
