PUPILS at St Peter’s School in Marlborough who picked up paintbrushes and got arty in a Marlborough in Bloom competition have been rewarded for their work.

The youngsters were tasked with using their imagination to create a painting inspired by the theme of a ‘walk in the park’.

More than 100 pupils entered the competition and got creative with colour and design before the entries were judged by Mayor of Marlborough Margaret Rose and displayed in the window of Hamptons Estate Agents in the High Street.

Councillor Rose attended the school’s special pupil of the week assembly to award the certificates to the winners. They included Evie Mundie, Jenna McKay, Emma Lock and Nathan Nichols.

Coun Rose said: “Last year we decided as an incentive to give the children a nice certificate so they have something to take home and also they can see that they can achieve something.”

The mayor also had the honour of handing out badges to the newly elected school councillors and offered words of wisdom and encouragement to them.

Headteacher Caroline Spindlow added: “It is lovely seeing them have the opportunity to work for a competition and use their imaginations. Our children are just so imaginative it is wonderful, they do it in such a wonderful and different way.”
