URCHFONT have been crowned the Wiltshire League champions following a 10 wicket success at Hinton Charterhouse.

Having gone into the game two points clear of Royal Wootton Bassett, who led the way until the final three weeks of the campaign, Urchfont knew that they had to claim a better points haul than their rivals to ensure they would win the league.

Urchfont lost the toss and were put into bat, with stand-in skipper David Bromley and Ben Hodder (42) putting on a 113-run opening wicket stand before the latter was dismissed.

Bromley continued to be the rock of the innings before he departed for 89, with Urchfont on 181-5 before the middle order kicked on to post 250-8.

Joe Dorgan and Jakob Plant, who claimed three and four wickets respectively, got the visitors off to a fine start in defence of their target as they ripped through Hinton, leaving them 41-7 from only 13 overs.

Toby Dorgan, who picked up two wickets, and Morlon Simon finished the job as the hosts were skittled for 71, handing Urchfont 25 points and the title.

Club captain Patrick Bromley said: “It’s been an amazing season and this is the first time in the clubs history we have won Division One.

“We are delighted to be going up and we look forward to welcoming new teams and challenges next year.”

Bassett, who were pipped to the title last season by Malmesbury, knew that they needed maximum points from their clash against Nationwide House to stand a chance of winning the league.

However, Darren Beasant’s bowlers dismissed their visitors for 111 from 43.1 overs, with Ian Lancaster claiming 4-38 and seven bowling points.

Bassett needed 35.2 overs to overhaul their target, with the help of an unbeaten 52 from Jack Twine, with the loss of one wicket to claim another seven bonus points to take their tally from the match to 24 leaving them three points shy of Urchfont.

Swindon Civil Service finished the campaign bottom of the division following a three-wicket defeat to Lacock.

Beanacre and Melksham brought the curtain down on their season with a three wicket success at Box.

Having won the toss, Beanacre put Box into bat but the hosts put on 60 for the opening wicket with Jess Richman (29) eventually dismissed by Andy Footner after being put down four times.

Richard Foley and Neil Pettit (66) then upped the run rate for Box as they added 75 in 13 overs before Chris Singh (4-34) had the opener caught and bowled.

Foley was then run out for 41 before Beanacre, who picked up five more wickets, restricted their hosts to 187-8.

Beanacre’s reply got off to their usual poor start as they were reduced to 17-2, before Ed Skippings (32) and Ben Brown (54) put on a 77-run stand to help the visitors to 103-4 with 16 overs left.

Dean Wallington then hit 39 from 35 balls to help boost the Beanacre innings, while Singh saw them home with nine balls to spare, with an unbeaten 25. Jonny Pegler was the pick of the Box attack with 5-33.

Division Two

Bear Flat won their division following a 34-run success over Avebury.

Batting first, Bear Flat were restricted to 169-9 with Mark Gunning 46 and Chris Bence 40 leading the way.

Josh Sutton (4-15) and Ross Newman (3-30) helped dismiss the visitors for 135.

Division Three

After being crowned champions last weekend, Beehive headed to Ramsbury looking to put the gloss on a fine season.

But things started badly for Beehive as they lost Chris Warren (2) and Mike Spong (0) early on.

A partnership of 63 between Mike Reeves (36) and James Hall (36) saw Beehive dig deep to stop the rot.

Captain Neil Harber and Gary Collins accumulated some quick runs in the last few overs, Harber scoring 53 from 50 balls and Gary Collins 25 from 22 balls as the visitors closed on 177-4.

Beehive had to wait until the 30th over to make the breakthrough in Ramsbury’s reply, with Walker (91) and Jephson (40) sharing a 117-run stand before Smith (17*) and Bourne saw the hosts home in the 42nd over.

Biddestone 3rd ended their miserable season with a six-wicket defeat to runners-up Wootton Bassett 2nd.

The efforts of Christopher Meggs (45), Alex Chyrstal (37) and Ryan Berry (32) saw Biddestone score 134 in the 42nd over but Ben Mattick hit 55 in reply as Bassett triumphed in the 40th over.

Division Six

Beehive 2nd ended their campaign with a five wicket win over Marshfield.

Electing to field first, the hosts got stuck into the Marshfield batting with Jonny Andrews (1-13) and Steve Taylor (2-13) claiming early wickets.

Wickets fell at regular intervals with James Dennison (2-10), Ben Clift (2-11) and Adrian Day (1-3) also getting in on the act as Marshfield were skittled for 88.

Dan Thomas (16) and Ash Rendell (25) put on 41 for the opening wicket, while Grant Savides hit a quickfire 14 before Nigel Reeves (17*) and Rich Hudd (14*) completed the victory.

Division Seven

Biddestone 4th finished as runners-up after beating their Goatacre counterparts by three wickets.

Martin Hewitt took a magnificent 7-44 as Goatacre were restricted to 121, while Freddie Moore and Nathan Caddell both scored 32 as Biddestone eased home in their run chase.
