THE Red Lion near Pewsey has been named as one of the best pubs in the country.

The eatery in East Chisenbury has scooped fourth place in the prestigious Good Food Guide 2016 of top ten pubs.

The guide, owned by Waitrose, is compiled based on reader reviews and anonymous inspections and is the latest accolade for the Wiltshire establishment, which has been run by husband and wife Guy and Brittany Manning since 2008, as it already has a coveted Michelin Star and boasts five AA stars.

The Red Lion was also honoured with a national Alastair Sawday’s pub award in 2013.

Before taking over the business, Mrs Manning worked as a pastry chef in America and Mr Manning also worked as a top chef in New York.

On the menu they serve anything from Cornish pollock, roast rump of Wiltshire lamb, grilled hake to chicken liver pate, with the majority of food being sourced locally.

For the second year in a row the best pub was voted as the Freemasons at Wiswell, Lancashire, runner up was The Hand & Flowers in Buckinghamshire followed by The Sportsman in Kent.
