STRONGMAN heavyweights Richard Sennewald and John Clark have been called in to referee the second Chippenham Strongman Competition in September.

The event on September 12 is being organised by Chippenham businesswoman Kat Burne, owner of Strength Studio in Chippenham, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The competition will consist of five main events and is open to men and women over the age of 18.

Miss Burne said: “The fact that John and Rich are coming down, two quite famous guys in the world of strongmen, it means a lot and it’s good for the event.

“It’s not just about competing though; it’s also about having fun and giving something back to the community.”

The second ever running of the competition at Strength Studio on Ivy Lane will have prizes for the top three competitors and a charity raffle with organisers hoping to raise around £300 for charity.

John Clarke, Midland’s Strongest Man, said: “The competition at the Strength Studio is a great opportunity for local people to both try and also watch a live strongman show.

“As the sport grows it's important that first timer athletes are given the chance to compete, develop and improve to increase the success at all levels in England. This and the opportunity to raise money for charity is why I will be supporting on the day.”
