FIVE friends from Devizes got on their bikes to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Conor Dunne, 16, of Edward Road, Jack Colyer, 16, of Hopgood Close, Liam O'DDonnell, 16, of Avon Road, Henry Johnston, 16, of Devizes Road and Marcus DeVitto, 16, of Avon Road cycled 120 miles over two days.

The five teenagers met at St Augustine's, Trowbridge but are now preparing to go their different ways to sixth form, college and work.

Conor said: "We decided this year to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Last year we raised money for Cancer Research so we thought we should donate for a local charity and Jack suggested the air ambulance.

"We were all in agreement with that idea as they help a lot of people across Wiltshire and because it costs a lot to keep the helicopter running. We thought that our small contribution to them would be very helpful."

The boys ride started well when they left The Wharf in Devizes at 7.30am and cycled 30 miles to Bitton train station on the outskirts of Bristol. They then completed the return 30 miles without incident.

But the going was less smooth on the second day when Liam's bike got a problem in All Cannings and a replacement bike had to be brought out to them. They kept going to finish a second day of 60 miles at the Air Ambulance headquarters in Devizes.

The boys' target was £500 but with gift aid they have raised £680. To make a donation go to
