LYNEHAM couple Peter and Ruth Doyle are celebrating the perfect wedding anniversary after a winning £1m in the EuroMillions draw.

Peter, 60, and his wife Ruth, 51, celebrated by returning to the scene of their wedding, the Marlborough Suite at the Wiltshire Hotel, Golf and Leisure Resort near Royal Wootton Bassett, eight years to the day since they tied the knot.

The £1m prize came after Mrs Doyle matched the unique EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker code, PBH117639, in the EuroMillions draw on June 23.

The couple, who moved to Lyneham in November after nine years in Royal Wootton Bassett in November, had already booked a visit to their holiday home near Alicante in Spain and the trip will now give them time to consider their options.

Mr Doyle, who has three children and two grandchildren, and his wife are planning to pay off the mortgage on the holiday home, as well as their property in Wiltshire with the winnings.

The life-changing sum will also enable the couple to bring forward the planned alterations to their Lyneham home as well as reviewing their respective pension funds.

Mr Doyle, a decorator development manager for AkzoNobel, said: “It’s totally unbelievable. I thought it was someone winding us up, I was working from home on the day, I just could not believe it.

“We are lucky enough to have a house in Spain, we can pay that mortgage off and we are going to chill out for a while, it’s our birthdays in February so we’ll take a nice trip then.”

Mrs Doyle, a senior programme manager for Johnson Controls in Europe, plays EuroMillions online via a National Lottery direct debit and initially thought she’d won £25 after receiving an email informing her of the win.

Unable to remember her password to log on to the National Lottery website, Mrs Doyle didn’t check the full EuroMillions results and instead checked her bank account.

She said: “I just checked my bank account, and not my National Lottery account, and it said £25 had gone in from the National Lottery so I didn’t check further as I thought that must have been it.

“When I received the call I was so excited and told Peter right away. We couldn’t take it in. It only became real when we visited the offices at Camelot.

“We have been too shell shocked to think about anything, I think we’ll pay off the mortgage first and other things after that.

“It gives us a secure future, we can relax a bit more but we have no plans to stop working or anything like that.”
