GILL Neal from Chippenham says she likes her new look after braving the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her father.

Mrs Neal 52, of St Margaret’s Gardens, in Chippenham, is raising money after losing her father Alan Bishop to cancer just three weeks after diagnosis.

Mr Bishop, who loved horses, bowls, Laurel & Hardy, Neil Diamond and The Rolling Stones, died of liver cancer on February 22, 2011.

Her daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Matthew Maynard and her sister, Alison Millership, also got in on the action on Saturday at LA Barber Co in Chippenham's Emery Gate.

Many friends and other family members also turned out to support the group with their fundraising efforts.

Mrs Neal said: “I really like it to be honest, after the initial shock I really like it and I’m quite happy going out with nothing on my head.

“By the time they diagnosed him, it was only three weeks between diagnosis and him dying, it was not enough time say goodbye.

“There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. He was loving, funny, sensitive and most of all an amazing human being.

“Dad would have found it really funny; he would have laughed like a drain. I can imagine his wonderful throaty laugh. It's one my best memories of him."

An email from MacMillan Cancer Support first sparked the idea for the Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre worker to go bald for charity, just before father’s day.

Without her father on that special day, she decided to sign up to the challenge and was later joined by three members of her family.

Mrs Neal added: “This is a very visual reminder to show people and to help to support Macmillan.

“I would have quite happily done it by myself but it was nice to know there were other people who cared enough to support.

“It's a brilliant way to raise funds for Macmillan who do a great job to make living with cancer more bearable. I want everyone who is suffering cancer and their families to be supported by this fantastic charity.”
