A SMALL village in Wiltshire, which has become a mecca for rock legends, raised £42,500 from this year's sell-out concert.

On Monday cheques were presented to cancer charities and good causes in All Cannings as cash from this year's Concert At The Kings was handed over by its three founding members.

Pub landlord Richard Baulu, Andy Scott from the 1970s glam rock ban Sweet and soundman John Callis were delighted that £112,500 has now been raised since the first concert was held in 2012.

The presentation was a good reason for the Kings Arms to stage another party as people who had made the 2015 event possible were invited to celebrate.

Mr Baulu said: "We are thrilled to announce that the amount raised since 2012 is now £112,500.

That's £70,000 from the first three concerts and a massive £42,500 from 2015's sold out event."

A total of £13,50 went to Above And Beyond, £13,500 to Macmillan Cancer Support and £5,500 to Hope For Tomorrow.

Another £10,000 went to the parish of All Cannings to be used for good causes in the village.

This year's festival line-up included 70s folk rock group Lindisfarne, new wave band Squeeze and electronic dance artist Howard Jones.

The bands who are used to performing in front of huge audiences at venues all over the world were delighted by the atmosphere in All Cannings.

Andy Scott from The Sweet, who lives in the village said after this year's performance: "Nowhere can beat playing here. It makes me well up. The atmosphere is so fantastic."

Lindisfarne original Rod Clements was equally impressed. He said: "It was incredible that there were a lot of people here who knew all the words to so many songs. It was very special."

On Monday scores of people gathered at the pub. Mr Callis said: "We want to thank everyone for their support. We originally set a target of raising £50,000. Before this year we had raised £70,000 and now we have gone well over £100,000.

"It would not have been possible without the tremendous help from all our volunteers, production suppliers and the truly fantastic artists that have adorned our sleepy village."

In the past performers such as Bob Geldof and Brian May have appeared at the concert. Plans for next year's event have already started.
