TEENAGER Matthew Wilson is keeping his fingers crossed for glorious sunshine this weekend for the Hilcott and Bottlesford scarecrow trail.
It is the third year the 17-year-old, of Harding Terrace, has organised the charity event near Pewsey and he is hoping it’s third time lucky with the weather, as in previously years the skies have opened and it has rained, although spirits haven’t been dampened.
This year’s theme is characters from children’s TV programmes past and present. However, the St John’s Academy student who is studying his A-Levels, is remaining tight lipped about who the characters are and wants to keep it a surprise for those who take part.
The trail opens from 10.30am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday and there will be 30 different characters scattered around the villages for people to find.
There will be a barbeque, homemade cakes and tea, and an ice cream van and free parking next to Hilcott village hall.
All the money raised will be split between funding a defibrillator on the main road near the Woodbridge Inn, and St James’ Church in North Newnton.
Matthew, who was inspired to launch the event after visiting Urchfont’s trail, said: “It’s great doing something to raise money for local charities and it’s a lot of fun."
