PUPILS at Redlands School in Chippenham were all smiles as many received certificates for 100 per cent attendance.

A total of 57 of the schools 287 pupils completed the academic year without a single day of absence.

The pupils received a special certificate and a gold wristband during the final assembly of the summer term last week in recognition of their achievement.

A further 66 pupils at the school on Brook Street, Chippenham, had attendance records of more than 99 per cent.

Headteacher Hilary Lambert said: "We are very proud of the children and this is a very proud moment for them. Everyone was applauding and the children were very happy. We always reward good attendance as it means good learning with continuity.

"It reflects in the children's learning too, our Key Stage Two SATs results were very impressive which is a culmination of good attendance at school, work ethic and lots of effort going into their learning.

"Attending school every day is very very important, as is being a good enthusiastic learner. We encourage pupils to have a love of learning, we make learning fun. School is an enjoyable place to be and the teachers strive to make a creative learning environment and make learning interesting."

Ms Lambert has now laid down the gauntlet to pupils who are remaining at the school for the upcoming academic year to try and match the impressive attendance records when they return from their long summer holidays.
