THE British summer has truly arrived with rain, winds and grey skies leading Swindon into the weekend.

A weather warning has been put in place across the region by the Met Office with the rain set to continue throughout the day.

Its chief forecaster said today: "Areas of rain, often heavy, and strengthening winds will cross much of southern England today (Friday), persisting overnight in the east, before clearing on Saturday morning.

"More than 30mm is expected quite widely but with the likelihood now that some areas could well see more than 70mm of rain.

"The combination of factors brings the risk of disruption to outdoor activities and heavy holiday traffic."

Temperatures are unlikely to get above 13 degrees during the day while there will be a steady wind until later on tonight.

Despite the weather, all trains out of Swindon are running on time and there are no major incidents on the roads.

However, drivers are being asked to take care with conditions on the road being particularly treacherous.

The A338 was partially blocked in both directions between the Mill Drove junction in Collingbourne Kingston and the A346 junction in Burbage, because of a crash involving a single vehicle this morning and ambulance crews attended an incident on the Rockley Road, near Marlborough, before 8am.

Just before 5.45pm it was reported that White Ennox Lane, Corsham, was blocked in both directions at the Quarry Hill junction because of a collision.
