St Bartholomew's Primary Academy in Royal Wootton Bassett has said a fond farewell to Suzanne Lane, who became deputy head teacher in 1999 and has been head teacher since 2001.

At a packed end of term service in St Bartholomew's Church, Year 6 pupils who are moving on to secondary education added their good wished to Mrs Lane, who has been appointed school link advisor to the Diocese of Oxford Schools Trust.

The congregation included Canon Harold Stephens, the chairman of Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education. Mrs Lane spoke of the many significant events that have impacted on education and the wider world during the past 16 years.

In wishing the Year 6 leavers and the school continued success, she said: "I have been fortunate to work with a team of hugely dedicated, talented and inspirational people, who have helped, guided, supported and challenged me along the way.

"My work at St Bartholomew's has been fulfilling, rewarding and humbling. It has been a great privilege to lead this great school."

At the service and the school's subsequent valedictory assembly, Mrs Lane received many gifts,, including garden vouchers, a plant and a satchel for her laptop computer.
