PARENTS Phillippa Strickland and Peter Kyte said the arrival of their newborn son would not have been possible without the work of midwives at Trowbridge Birthing Centre after there were complications during birth.

Miss Strickland said having previously had a homebirth with her five-year-old daughter Izzabelle, she decided to do the same this time around.

“We had a homebirth with Izzabelle and it went very smoothly and so we thought we would do the same but this time he had some complications and it got a bit scary for a while because we were at home,” Miss Strickland said. “I would like to just say a massive thank you at how amazing the Trowbridge birthing team were and how they dealt with the emergency. I would recommend them to anyone.

“The fact that they dealt with it in a home environment and it proves that all the training does come into itself and I think it needs to be said that when these things go wrong, the midwives get on with it and they were just truly amazing.”

The couple, who have been together for 10 years, wanted to pay thanks to several midwives including Sue Noble who delivered both her children.

Since coming home, Miss Strickland said her daughter has loved being a big sister, particularly as Oliver was born a day after her birthday.

She said: “She absolutely loves it and she has even been telling me how to do things. She’s been really good in helping out and she has loved the role of being a big sister.”

Thankfully, Miss Strickland said she had no other complications throughout the pregnancy which she found easy going.

“I found this pregnancy the same really as Izzabelle and I am thankful that it came quite easy to me. It didn’t stop me doing anything and obviously I had a bad back but I got on with it and I was lucky not have morning sickness or any health complications,” she added.

“I thought I was going to be having a girl because everything felt the same as it did with Izzabelle. We were very happy to know that we were having a boy though.

“We’re just getting used to having two children at the moment so we haven’t got any plans for any more just yet.”
