A NEW peace sculpture has been installed at St Barnabas Primary School in Market Lavington as part of an NADFAS art project.

The project was organised by the young arts section of the Devizes branch of the National Decorative and Fine Arts Society and consisted of colourful wire poppies, doves and a large cross.

All the children were involved in making the wire sculpture along with the leadership of artists Sue Whelan and Gerry Francis from the Fired Arts Studio in Urchfont.

Headteacher Jill Hibbs said: "It is a really beautiful piece of work which is enjoyed by children, parents and visitors.

"The finished project is amazing and will be enjoyed by the school for a long time."

Each year, money is raised by the Devizes NADFAS branch to enable young people to undertake an art project.

A wire sculpture to commemorate the First World War was requested and then made by the pupils which has now been placed in the Peace and Reflective garden at the school.
