A HUGE number of people put on their dancing shoes and straw hats for the country fair and barn dance at Chilton Foliat Primary School on Saturday.

Visitors enjoyed a range of activities and entertainment from a falconry display, pony rides, maypole dancing, tug of war and pottery cafe.

There was also face painting and traditional stalls, together with live music from top local talent Jenny Bracey and ex-Chilton Foliat students, Lara de Carle and Zero Tolerance.

Organisers have hailed the event their best yet. Headteacher Denise Weston said: “What a fantastic time we had on Saturday with the fair and barn dance extremely busy all afternoon.

“It was the most successful to date with a tremendous turn out from the school community and Chilton Foliat villagers and supporters.

“The children did us proud with their maypole dancing and showed their competitive nature in the tug of war – all had fun pony riding, watching the falconry display and country dancing at the Barn Dance.”

Mrs Weston added: “The success of this event was down to the hard work of the Friends at Chilton Foliat School with all funds raised going towards an extension to the children’s outside play area. A fun time was had by all that attended - young and old – and we thank the whole school community for their support of our wonderful school.”
